Grace King

I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa by my mother, a single parent. My father abandoned us when my mother was pregnant. I was an only child. I was a high achiever at school, seemed to always have many friends and seemed to be ‘accepted’.

Through my childhood I experienced feelings of abandonment, of not belonging, not quite fitting in, sometimes being ‘over-sensitive’, of being rejected, even though on the outside it may have seemed as though I was a very happy child. After having my heart broken by my first love whilst at high school, feelings of guilt, regret and shame overwhelmed me. This was my ‘tipping point’, so to speak. What led me to write this book is to share my tribulations and my victory over bulimia. To share the wisdom I have gained on this journey with other people who suffer from eating disorders with the deep sincere hope that I may be able to help encourage them to believe in themselves and to take the steps to know and cure their bulimia. It is possible, if you believe it is and if you want it deeply enough.

The most important part of my personal story is finding love through my faith in God. Through God anything is possible and I wanted to remind people of that. It is through this love that bulimia dies. Love is the most powerful and graceful force we will ever experience and it is this power we have to learn to embrace, in order to overcome any obstacle or challenge we face in our lives. For me, this love and God, are one in the same. Through my faith in God, my life has been given hope and meaning, and God and Jesus saved me from my curse, which has now become my blessing. My hope is my story will give other sufferers the courage to believe in what may seem to be impossible, and to have faith that there is a new life awaiting them if they are willing to make the effort in learning the truth about their eating disorder and finding the path that will lead them to their awaiting freedom. I am forever grateful to my loving husband and for our two beautiful children we have been blessed with.
