Please indulge me as I tell you about myself to complete this bibliography section of the Author’s page. By day I am a Pediatric Occupational Therapist and by night I work on my writing skills when I can resist the temptation to watch the sitcoms. This is my first self-published work of fiction, although I have been writing stories in my head and on paper for years, I was reluctant for anyone to read my work until now. Why now? Well, I am older, can handle rejection better and I am less fearful of the unknown. I am originally from the Caribbean island of Grenada, best known for its political upheavals during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. President Reagan sent US troops in 1983 to restore law and order on the tiny island and safeguard the well being of the American students attending the Medical School there. The initial revolution in March 1979 played a part in my being in the US, and having to navigate the long and winding path to citizenship. So, because I am familiar with the immigration process and the barriers to legal residency, I wrote this book, “Coveting the Dream,” which is fictional with elements of reality, and timely because of the push for immigration reform. My friends and daughters are fascinated with my stories of growing up on the tiny, tropical island where the speeds were “dead slow” and “stop”, with one hilarious thing after another happening in my day to day existence; I am still laughing. So I am writing my memoir for them. I love the career choice that I made in 1996 moving from Finance/Accounting in cooperate America to Occupational Therapy, and although I have worked in a variety of settings, working with children has been most rewarding.
