Duane H. Freitag

Duane H. Freitag was born in 1945 in Monroe, Wisconsin. He grew up in the Swiss-American community of New Glarus and graduated from the University of Wisconsin -- Madison in 1967. After Army service in Vietnam he returned to work at the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison. In 1973 he joined the staff of The Milwaukee Journal, where he worked as a reporter and editor. He retired from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in 2000 and has been busy on a variety of volunteer projects. He has focused his research on the early history of the Swiss colony in Green County, Wisconsin. He and his wife, Jan, live in Greendale, Wisconsin. They have two children and four grandchildren. "Sauerkraut, Suspenders, and the Swiss" is his only book.
