Bettie Wailes

Now retired, Bettie has more time to write--and to run. She spends much of the year traveling to marathons with her sweetheart Jim, writing along the way. She and Jim consider themselves to be the luckiest people imaginable.

In 2014, Bettie completed 102 marathons to become the 4th American woman and 5th worldwide to run at least 100 marathons in a calendar year. Then 70, she was the oldest woman to reach this goal. Then in 2018, she bested her record by completing 104 marathons.

Her marathon total is over 525, placing her fifth among woman on the Mega Marathon List, a list of runners who have completed 300 or more marathons or longer. She is working toward 600, hopefully by the end of 2019.

She has two daughters, five grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson.

She is currently working on her first novel, a cozy mystery in which the murder occurs, where else, on a marathon course. The working title is Running Down the Trail.
