Mr Dwight E Nathaniel

Dwight Nathaniel was the head coach of the historic McClymonds High School baskatball program for 13 years. Under Nathaniel, McClymonds won the Oakland Athletic League six times, garnered nine Northern California playoff berths, two Northern California Division 1 titles and one California Division 1 State title. Nathaniel was named the California State Coach of the Year in 2008.

Nathaniel's presence on the basketball court extends well beyond the city of Oakland. His ability to motivate, inspire and get the best out of kids from rough inner city backgrounds has garnered high praise from his colleagues all across the country and has spawned features in several publications, including USA Today and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Before his involvement with Mcclymonds, Nathaniel was the co-founder of the "West Oakland High Five," the first club basketball team for kids on the west side of Oakland. The High Five earned more than 125 first place trophies during the programs 10 year existence and featured notable alumni such as former NBA star Antonio Davis and street ball legend Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell. In addition, Nathaniel coached the Oakland PAL (Police Activities League)traveling team for two years.

A native of Oakland, California, Nathaniel is a mentor and inspiration to the West Oakland community. Nathaniel, or "Coach Moe" as he is known, hung up his whistle and retired from coaching and his career as the City of Berkeley's Weatherization Supervisor in 2008. Nathaniel currently lives in Hercules, California.
