About the Author: MAGDA PORTAL: She was born in Lima Peru, on May 27th of 1900. When Magda was 23 years old, she won her first literary prize at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in the Spring Literary Awards Games with her poetry plaquette La Esperanza y el Mar (The hope and the Sea). In 1924, she co-founded APRA (Popular Revolutionary American Alliance) due to her political activism and involvement with the the oppressed, she was sent to exile to Mexico and later Chile. She was also imprisoned in the Santo Tomas jail for 500 days. In 1948, she quitted when APRA changed its political standings by supporting the conservative class. After that she experienced hard retaliation: threatens against her life and properties. Afterwards, persecuted by her ideas, Magda was dismissed as literary representative of FCE publishing house in Lima.

About the Editor: RENEE CASTRO-POZO, settled in Canada in 2001 through UN Convention. She holds a doctoral degree in Literature and Education, She managed the feminist publishing house L'Equite. Also Mrs. Castro-Pozo has coordinated the Peruvian Committee for Women's Liberation, and chaired the Women's Studies at the National University of St. Marcos, and was the host for the National Convention for Peasant Women in (Huancayo- Peru). She won the Newcomer Settlement Volunteer Award (Ontario, 2006). She belongs to the Women's Events Committee of Peterborough and the Raging Grannies until 2011 when she moved to Toronto. She is a member of Women United Against Imperialism and the Raging Grannies.
