I write beginning reader books about non-releasable sea turtles that are cared for at Sea Turtle, Inc. on South Padre Island, Texas. And I write about my father's early life on a ranch in Oklahoma that was his Cherokee mother's allotment. Two of the Rowdy books are available on Amazon and are books for young readers or older ones if you like to laugh and smile a bit. I also write young adult books that feature my grandsons, the Jones Boys Mysteries. They take place on and around the Dude Ranch in Western Colorado that I always wanted but never had.
My first turtle book is "Swim, Allison, Swim!" and is about a green sea turtle who only has one flipper but swims with a prothesis. She was just about the size of your hand when found and now weighs 50 pounds. That book is used at the Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas where the veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan who are missing a 'flipper' or two come for rehabilitation. It helps the children of those Wounded Warriors understand that life can still be good.
I am currently working on a book for children that is a Cherokee myth told to young children so they understand responsibility and appreciate the elders of the tribe. And I am helping with an activity book for children written in Cherokee. Wado! Sheryl Jones
