Amazon Bio for Peter A TaylorSept.2012
Don’t Postpone Joy.
Born in 1953 and raised on several dairy farms in the stunning area of Northland New Zealand gave Peter a love of the land, animals and a free life to roam and explore nature. Being the eldest of 3, with 2 younger sisters, he soon took a major role in raising his sister’s and caring for his parents.
His family moved to the local town of Whangarei when Peter was 7 until returning to the farm at 13. By now he and his eldest sister had ponies and helped their father Stan, milk cows and help on the farm. At this age his parents divorced with his younger sister moving with his Mother to Auckland, the big city.
Peter left home before his 16th birthday with a dream to travel the world and the itch of a free spirit driving his dream. At 19 he realised he needed an education to make his way in the world. Now in Sydney Australia, Peter began his studies in Hotel and Catering Management. Eventually his love of horses stole his heart and this passion became his life for the next 24 years as a professional equestrian. A fusion of hospitality businesses and the competitive world of international sport bought many skills to Peter’s adventures.
After participating in Barcelona Olympics, a dream for 13 years his life change irrevocably by the bite of a sand fly.
The complete story is written in his autobiography ‘Don’t Postpone Joy’, boys own manual of travel throughout the world and his adventures to see his dream to participate at the Olympic Games come true.
The Olympics became his nemesis when he was unknowingly bitten by a sand fly and contracted a terminal parasitic infection which destroyed his bone marrow. His fight to be the longest living and only person in the world to live past 20 months is a tribute to resilience, courage and hope. Enjoy and be inspired by this fabulous fast moving romp of raw excitement. Like his photo, Peter enjoys a full life of fun with his partner and lives in Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand.
He no longer rides horses and is now a speaker and writer. Peter is 80%blind and profoundly deaf. However he uses bi-lateral cochlear implants and has joined the hearing world.
