Karen Arthur

Karen Rempel Arthur was born in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada some years ago and was seriously bitten by the writing bug at an early age. This happened after reading one of those brave-husky-dog-saves-the-day books. Her favorite writing spot became the garden shed using her grandfather's old Smith Corona typewriter. Her first story about a hero dog has thankfully disappeared into the ether. Since then she has had a variety of short stories for adults and children published, has written for the newspaper and published several non-fiction books, several novels and her popular Flora BeGora mystery series.

Karen had a long career working in law offices, managing a housing co-operative and in administration at a center for the developmentally handicapped. Curiously, all of these jobs involved some sort of writing, though writing legal/business documents involves much fewer adjectives than in fiction. The adjectives are fun. Now retired to Port Colborne, Ontario, she has much more time to devote to this harmless obsession, plus walking, biking, redecorating the house, art work and anything that involves yarn. She does not like cooking.

Karen enjoys the speaking engagements promoting her work and has been interviewed for radio and newspaper articles. Karen is a graduate of the Institute of Children's Literature.
