Meteorologist Chris Tomer appears M-F on KWGN-TV CW-2's "Daybreak" newscast 5-9am. Tomer also makes appearances on KDVR FOX-31's "Everyday" show M-F newscast/talk show 10-11am.
The Summer of 2011 marked a "first-ever" milestone for Chris and his long-time climbing partner & mountain geographer Dr. Jon Kedrowski. Together they completed their "Sleeping on the Summits" project where they slept on the summit of every named 14,000-foot mountain (14er) Colorado from sunset to sunrise in just 95 days. It had never been done before. Tomer and Kedrowski climbed during the afternoon thunderstorms, not before, making pinpoint-accurate weather forecasts critical. The project was truly a story of teamwork, taking risks, and climbing the proverbial mountain. Their full-color, 178-page, 9"x12" coffee-table style book published by Westcliffe Publishing is set for release in June 2012. The book is appropriately titled, Sleeping on the Summits: Colorado Fourteener High Bivys.
Kedrowski and Tomer deliver unparalleled, expert insight into weather forecasting, mountain geography & geology, escape routes, gear considerations, human physiology, and future endeavors. Kedrowski used this book project as training for his successful climb of Mount Everest in 2012. Kedrowski climbed Everest twice, with two very different outcomes. During the first climb, he turned away from the summit at 28,500ft attempting to rescue four climbers on the verge of death caught in a 100mph jet stream sitting over the summit. The second attempt was a huge success.
Tomer is also a private consulting meteorologist specializing in mountain weather forecasting. Most recently, Chris provided detailed weather forecasts for Dan Mazurs' Summit Climb Expedition on Mount Everest. His forecasts helped the expedition including Kedrowski to successfully reach the coveted summit in "dead-calm winds". Chris tailors his forecasts to mountains around the world, from Colorado's 14ers to Mount Everest. His forecasts were one of the keys to the success of the groundbreaking Sleeping on the Summits project. Chris's track record is impeccable. His services are available for hire: chrisdtomer@gmail.com
Chris routinely conducts "Mountain Meteorology" presentations at Front Range REI stores. Folks learn how to diagnose weather in the field, the nuts and bolts about mountain weather patterns, Colorado's #1 weather killer: lightning, 14er &13er weather, and valuable information on predicting weather windows.
