Neil Thomas

Neil was born in 1945, son of a naval architect and a child's nurse. Formative years spent growing up in and around British naval dockyards, mainly in Plymouth, were followed by a time at Reading University, and a B.Sc.in Agriculture in 1967. He left for Canada in 1967, emigrating finally in 1970. He finished a Ph.D. in Agronomy at McGill University in 1972. Between 1973 and 1982 he worked full-time overseas in Thailand and Mexico for IDRC of Canada, and in Indonesia for the University of California. He then relocated to Mallorytown, Ontario, and started a professional business which saw him complete, mainly for the Canadian International Development Agency, more than 100 missions worldwide. His most recent work was in Africa. He also started and ran a black walnut farm, mainly for research purposes, as a breath-catcher. He has recently relocated to Wellington, Prince Edward County, Ontario, where he resides with his wine-making wife. They have three children and two grandchildren. He has written three books, two of which are of fiction, and is at work on a volume of short stories. His blog Writing & disability may be read at
