I am a first time published novelist. I am British and have lived in the States for the last 10 years. I am married with two daughter, who both live in Europe.

My novel was inspired by extensive research conducted in Europe while trying to understand the experiences of my grandfather, Julius. My grandfather was born in Bohemia in 1890, which was a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and he was a career soldier in the Austro-Hungarian Army. He fought on the Italian Front in the First World War.

Whilst talking to my father about his childhood he told me about my grandfather’s (his father’s) life. He told me he had been a soldier in the Austro-Hungarian Army. I asked my father whether he thought himself Austrian or Czech (my father was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia) He said “I think my father was very ambivalent about his nationality. You have to remember he fought in the army for his Emperor and his Empire and in one day he lost everything and they created the new country of Czechoslovakia”

Those words stuck with me, and I started to research my grandfather’s life and the history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. I received my grandfather’s army records from Vienna, Austria and after a lot of research I wrote my book ‘Sons of the Eagle’

I am currently working on a sequel to 'Sons of the Eagle' that continues the story of Julius' life and tells the story of my grandparent's and father's experiences through the Second World War.
