Leonard Cohen sings in his song "Anthem", "There is a crack, a crack in everything...that's how the light gets in." This is the theme of my recovery life and assisting others in the same. That great recycling LIGHT shines out of our cracks, our 'brokeness'....As Henri Nouwen shared and lived so admirably: "The Walking Wounded have become the Wounded Healers."
I was born exactly 100 years before Vincent Van Gogh, a great inspiration of mine in the deep Expressionism of art and life. Vincent was a prime example of how light can shine out in a glorious array from one who had many such 'cracks'!
I have been an artist, theologian, pastor assisting others in recovery for over three decades, with almost ten years of my own active sobriety. I am blessed to be one of the 12 Resident Artists at the Healing Arts Center of Recovery Plus of the St. Cloud Hospital, working with clients to assist them in their recovery through healing art. I am most blessed, after three years in the making, over 400 blogs on recovery sites, and working with many in their recovery as walking miracles, to put in writing "Beyond Humpty Dumpty - Recovery Reflections On The Seasons Of Our Lives."
