Jan Nieman

Jan Nieman was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduating from Towson University, Maryland, she taught second grade, married, and raised five children. She changed gears and became a supervisor of a Social Security branch office, but stress caused her to seek other employment and that's when her wild ride began as a mobile pet groomer.

Her firm, Canine Clippers, became one of Maryland's largest businesses of that kind and upon retiring she began writing about those 21 years.

She has been noted in Baltimore Magazine, won an award in 2007 from the Florida Writers Association for "Going to the Dogs; Confessions of a Mobile Pet Groomer" and in 2011 her humorous memoir won the gold from Florida Publishers Association. She has written stories and profiles for various magazines, won first place in both non-fiction and fiction from the Gulf Coast Writers Assoc. and contests in Florida Weekly. She, spouse Niel, and Sasha, their rescue dog, live in Ft. Myers, FL.
