Mauricio Torres Toro

Born in Bogota, Colombia, in 1949, his childhood was marked by that country's internal wars and the violent process of democratic consolidation. His family was very active in politics and young Mauricio was first hand witness not only of the political turmoil, but also of the tragic deaths of relatives at the hands of the violent factions that were root to what became the communist guerrillas of FARC and others. After the killing of his uncle, father Camilo Torres, a Catholic priest, Mauricio was taken out of the country at the early age of 15, never to live there again. His live travels took him first to the United States where he stayed with his father. He moved to Ecuador where he settled before moving once more, this time to Peru. He visited France, Italy, Great Britain, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Australia, Iceland and many Latin American countries, on several occasions. His live has been full of adventure and risk taking. His fantasies led him to write about extraordinary events related sometimes to his past of violence, others to his singular way of seeing impossible events materialize into a surreal world.
