Margaret High

Margaret High was born on Bell Island, Newfoundland, where she spent the first sixteen years of her life. Growing up in a hardworking family with few books in the home, Margaret left school at a young age and began working. She never imagined that writing would one day become such an important part of her life.

In her forties, Margaret discovered a natural love for writing poetry. What began with poems written for family, friends, and co-workers gradually grew into published collections inspired by love, loss, family, Newfoundland traditions, and the people whose stories touched her heart.

Margaret is the author of several books, including Heartstrings, Newfoundland & Labrador: Poetry, Interesting Facts, Culture, Traditions, Old Ditties and Sayings, and her first novel, BOOM: Some things remain beneath the surface.

Born from her memories of Bell Island and inspired by the mysterious 1978 Bell Island Boom, BOOM fulfilled a dream Margaret once thought might always remain out of reach.

Margaret now lives in Cambridge, Ontario, where she continues to write. She believes it is never too late to follow a dream, discover a talent, or begin a new chapter in life.
