Sharon Carpenter

Sharon was introduced to Cowboy Poetry by Joel Hayes, “the father of Georgia Cowboy Poetry,” founder of Douglas County’s Poetry Writers Group, Douglasville, Georgia. Sharon soon became a performing artist at the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Annual Georgia Cowboy Gatherings. According to the Douglas Journal Sentinel, “Sharon’s unique style brings an African American perspective on western cowboy poetry. She weaves tales of African American contributors as well as captures the essence of the western esprit de corps through her unique, engaging style”.

Former foster child, Sharon was prompted to move forward with the publication of the book to enable creation of a poetic legacy, and to leverage funding to meet her aspiration of enabling “aged out” girls to develop enriching lifestyles that will prepare them for self-suffi ciency as adults. Sharon currently resides in Wisconsin with her husband, James Edward, and her younger daughter, Jamie. Her older daughter, Tylene, is married and also lives in Wisconsin with two daughters, Mekayla and Noelle.
