Leandro Nunes De Castro

Leandro de Castro has a BS (1996), a Masters (1998), and a Ph.D. (2001), all in Electrical Engineering. He also holds an MBA in Strategic Business Management (2008), all degrees taken in Brazil. He has held the following academic positions: Research Associate at the Computing Laboratory of the University of Kent in Canterbury (2001-2002), Assistant Professor at Unisantos (2003-2008), Visiting Professor at Unicamp (2012), Visiting Researcher at the University of Salamanca (2014), Associate Professor at Mackenzie University (2008-2022). Currently, he is a Full Professor at the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) in the Department of Computing & Software Engineering. He is also a Visiting Professor at Unicamp and a Principal Investigator in the Center of Science, Technology and Development for innovation in Medicine and Health hosted at the University of São Paulo in Brazil.

His main lines of research are Natural Computing and Machine Learning, with applications in Intelligent Data Analysis and Optimization. In addition to many books published and organized, he was the proponent and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Natural Computing Research (IJNCR) between 2010 and 2015 (IGI-Global). His research has been recognized globally since 2020 as among the 2% most influential researchers in the world based on scientific impact indices monitored by PLoS Biology. Leandro has published over 250 papers in journals and conferences. His scholarly contributions also include founding two research laboratories and serving as Research Chair and as the Chief Innovation and Entrepreneurship Officer at Mackenzie.
