Mark Mekkes began his education with a BA in Theater from Hope College in Holland Michigan. During College he worked as a magazine theater columnist and standup comic. From there he entered an internship at the McCarter Theater in Princeton New Jersey and spent 10 years working in various aspects of professional theater, from off Broadway to dinner theater and children’s productions. He has worked with famous performers such as Jamie Farr, Margaret O’Brien and The Amazing Kreskin. More recently he has spent the last 13 years working for Disney Entertainment in Orlando Florida.
In addition to his theatrical career, Mark received his second degree, a BFA in Illustration from Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota Florida. At Ringling he won a leadership award for his work with the student theater group. After graduating, in addition to creating the Web Cartoonists’ Choice Awards, he has produced online comics and freelance illustration for over 10 years. He is currently the creator of the comic strips Zortic and Saucer Seekers as well as the writer for the strip Abby’s Agency. All of his work can be found at www.entireprizeenterprises.com.
The two careers have overlapped and intertwined to create a unique perspective on both theatrical and artistic disciplines.
