Angela Senander

Angela Senander is a Research Fellow at Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and an Associate Professor in the Religious and Theological Studies Department at Merrimack College in Massachusetts.

She has studied the Catholic Church’s engagement in public life from both inside and outside the Washington Beltway. As a member of the faculty at Washington Theological Union, a Catholic graduate school of theology and ministry, she enjoyed teaching courses in Catholic social ethics. She also enjoys participating in rich interdisciplinary conversations at Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs. Teaching in the Boston area, she has observed the effects of the clergy sexual abuse scandal on the Catholic Church’s public engagement and the effects of Catholics concerned about scandal protesting commencement speakers at Catholic colleges. Her book on this topic invites dialogue about the Catholic Church and its engagement in public life. She speaks to parishes, diocesan leadership institutes, and social justice organizations involved in both direct service and advocacy. In her free time, she likes to swim, canoe and bicycle. She participated in Georgetown Medical School’s IronMed triathlon to raise funds for Hoya clinic.
