As shown above, with her proof-reader staring over her shoulder, Donna Hrkman is an award-winning artist who has been a creative spirit since childhood, when her second grade art teacher told her mother, "This child has talent". She has spent her life attempting to prove it. She has illustrated books and catalogues, designed her own line of decorative stencils, and was a freelance fabric designer. Nudged into rug hooking by friends, Donna fell completely in love with the art and has hooked her own designs since day one. She writes for Rug Hooking Magazine and teaches workshops across the country. Her rugs have won People's Choice awards at rug hooking shows and eight of them have been selected for the prestigious Celebrations issues from Rug Hooking Magazine. The Companion is her first book.
In her latest book, Creative Techniques for Rug Hookers, Donna shares her knowledge and experience in different special aspects of rug hooking. She has chapter after chapter of suggestions for some of her favorite hooking techniques, richly illustrated with color photos of her rugs.
Donna continues to explore her dreams in designs and hopes to keep sharing the joy she finds in creating hooked art rugs.
