I've always enjoyed writing. Even in junior high I would go home after school several times a week and sit on the back deck and write. Of course my working life and family intervened at times and slowed me down, but I still made some time for writing.
For me writing is an adventure. I don't like to outline, somehow that just feels like filling in the blanks. I start with a setting, a character or two, and a general idea of where the story might go. I'll write note to myself along the way as to possible plot twists or another character to add which sometimes sends me back to the beginning. So at times I'm writing back at the beginning of the story as well as somewhere deeper in.
A note to oneself, by the way, is a great way to avoid writer's block. Sometimes I'll be driving or at work and an idea will come to mind and I'll jot it down and when I get home, if I don't have time to write, I'll simply open my computer and set it on the keyboard.
So I'm always sort of finding my way along a stories path which is what makes it so enjoyable.
