Jerry Kidd Painted the cover of Turnipseed strictly from his imagination and had no idea why or what the painting meant or represented. He was already an award-winning artist. He had a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comminications and had spent years in the Advertising Agency business in Chicago, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Boise as an account executive.
So when he wrote these two fairy tales to explain what the painting was about he found the characters were really just allowing him to tell their stories -- they knew all along what the story of the painting meant.
Mr. Kidd grew up in his own fairy tale land of the 1950's in Payette, Idaho.
His next book is a collection of short stories about that childhood on the Oregon border with his two tomboy sisters and plenty of time to have great adventures.
He also has two very different books he is working to finish. One is about a club-footed old cougar in the Seven Devils Mountain Range of Western Idaho and the cat's adventure with marijuana growers. The other book has taken nearly twenty years to write. It is a Western novel based upon the story of his grandfather escaping the pogroms of 19th century Russia and settling in Idaho. It is not history but rather a compelling story of how one family dealt with their daughter's marriage to this Jewish immigrant.
