I started teaching shortly after the earth started to cool. Since then, I have taught every grade from first through graduate school. My major research and teaching interests include gender issues in education, and reaching and teaching disengaged students. As an English major, I used literature to teach my students about handling life's realities with self-respect and dignity. When I left the classroom, I was the Coordinator for At-risk programs for Harford County Public Schools, Coordinator for Reconstitution-eligible Schools for the Maryland State Department of Education, Director of the Master of Arts in Teaching Program for Goucher College, and supervisor of student teachers for Notre Dame of Maryland University. Finally, after 48 years as an educator, I retired in 2014.
