Will Weisser

WILL WEISSER began training Brazilian jiu-jitsu in 2001 and received his black belt in 2022 after studying under high-level instructors across the United States. Over more than two decades on the mat, his focus gradually shifted from collecting techniques to understanding the underlying mechanics that determine why techniques work.

He is the co-founder of JiuJitsu dot net, a comprehensive database and statistical tracking platform for Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition. This project serves as a free resource for the BJJ community and as a tool he uses to study what succeeds at the highest levels of competition.

Will is a published author of science fiction, a background that informs his approach to explanation and modeling. His work is shaped by an interest in physics and the history of scientific progress. He continues to train and compete, using the mat as a laboratory for the ideas explored in his books.

He lives near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with his family, including three special cats.
