Alexander Casella

Alexander Casella is Swiss and lives in Geneva. His mother came from Prague, his father from Naples, his wife is American and has favorite cat is Siamese. His education included attending a Protestant school in Geneva, a Jesuit school in Naples and the Paris English school. Subsequently he acquired an MA and PhD in Political Science from the Geneva Graduate Institute.

From 1965 to 1975 he was an independent journalist covering essentially the Vietnam war for a number of European and American media outlets. In 1975 he joined the UN High Commissioner for Refugees where, in the course of the subsequent 20 years he served in Hanoi, Geneva, Beirut and Bangkok. He left UNHCR in 1996 and currently writes for Asia Times in addition to serving as a consultant on Migration and Asylum issues.
