Guido Cecere was born in Bari in 1947. After studying at Liceo Classico (secondary school with an emphasis on humanities), he attended a Higher Course on Graphic Arts and Photography in Urbino, where he was student of Albe Steiner and Michele Provinciali.
He graduated in 1971.
In the same year he was admitted to attend the postgraduate course in creative Photography at the London College of Printing, where he was student of George Lewinski. He graduated in 1972.
He has been living and working in Pordenone since 1974. He matched his work as photographer and art director with research and studies on History of Photography and on the application of images to communication.
He has been working as iconographic consultant for the Venice Biennale, Biblioteca dell'Immagine, Magnus Edizioni, Marsilio Editore and he has been cooperating with Editors Alinari, Electa, Fabbri, De Agostini, Gribaudo with whom he has published ten books so far. He as been working also with international Editors: Te Neues, Dumont, Presco Group, Waddington etc.
He realized more than 30 one-man exhibitions and took part to many collective exhibitions both in Italy and abroad.
His photos have been published on many Italian and foreign magazines.
He realized over 60 photographic calendars.
In 1994 he won the Award for the best European photographic calendar at Frankfurt Book Fair.
Since 1984 he has been holding photography seminars at the ISIA in Urbino where he has been teaching continuatively from 1996 to 2002. He has been organising photography exhibitions for Cinemazero, cultural centre of Pordenone, since 1988.
He is member of the scientific committee of Alinari Museum of the History of Photography in Florence since 1989. Since 1993, he has been cooperating with Pordenone Centre for Cultural Initiatives - Galleria Sagittaria, in the video and photography sector. He is member of the scientific committee of the Regional Gallery of Contemporary Art “Spazzapan” since 2002.
He has been teaching Photography at the Academy of Art of Urbino from 1993 to 1997, and at the Academy of Art of Bologna from 1997 to 1998. He is regular professor of Photography at the Academy of Art of Venice since 1998.
In 2009 he won the Friuli Venezia Giulia Fotografia Prize.
Now lives and works between Venice and Pordenone.
