Kathy Green

Kathy Green was born in 1944, raised in Leavenworth, Kansas. Her memoir Sailing in Kansas is about her childhood as the daughter of a German Jew, her father Siegfried Held, who came to Leavenworth after fleeing the Nazis in 1936. The book is her "Tale of Two Cities," the Leavenworth of her childhood, including its small and dying Jewish community, and the fantasy world of pre-Hitler Berlin. Sailing in Kansas is a poignant memoir of a childhood lived between worlds and her encounters with pain, loss, and her growing Jewish identity.

Kathy Green is also author of The Jewish Family Book, together with Sharon Strassfeld.
