Dave Ungrady

Dave Ungrady is a public speaker, a best-selling author and a journalist who has written for the New York Times, Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and others. He's also done broadcasting work for ESPN, CNN, NBC and Voice of America. His first book, Unlucky: A Season of Struggle in Minor League Professional Soccer, chronicles Dave's attempt to play pro soccer at the age of 40. He did, sort of.

His latest book, Born Ready: the Mixed Legacy of Len Bias, examines the complex impact of the death of Bias, one of the best players in college basketball history who died from cocaine intoxication at the age of 22. From the Bias book Dave developed the Born Ready Project, which teaches life skills focusing on decision making and resilience to teenagers and young adults.

A Trenton, New Jersey native, Dave is a former Maryland athlete (track and field and soccer) and is a member of the Notre Dame High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
