Cantor Matt Axelrod

Cantor Matt Axelrod was born and raised in the Boston area, and is a graduate of Brandeis University and The Jewish Theological Seminary. Matt has served Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains, NJ, since 1990.

Cantor Axelrod is a national officer of the Cantors Assembly. He is a past president of its New Jersey Region and has also served on the United Synagogue Commission on Jewish Education.

For more than three decades, Matt has taught, nagged, supported, cajoled, and counseled hundreds and hundreds of b'nei mitzvah kids and their parents. He is a frequent presenter at synagogues, JCCs, and conferences, where he speaks to parents and students about the process of preparing for their bar and bat mitzvah.

Matt is also an avid aviation enthusiast and a licensed pilot and flight instructor. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and two sons.
