Sean’s beloved wife, Patty, who had Lupus for over fifty years and passed away in 2025, was his inspiration for being involved in the Lupus community. Patty was board chair of the Lupus Foundation of America’s North Carolina Chapter from 2007 to 2009. In 2010, Sean accepted an invitation to serve on the board and was elected board chair from 2013 to 2015. Often at workshops and other events, women would approach Sean and ask him to speak to their husband. In essence, they were asking him to “straighten out their husband’s butt!” But what can be said in five minutes that would do that? And that was the motivation for writing Caregivers Wear Plaid, first published in 2019. Today, he remains involved with the local lupus support group and participates in a monthly caregivers online program sponsored by the Lupus Foundation of America.
Sean is the President and founder of Stealth Awareness, Inc. (Hidden Knowledge), a company that has provided legal services to the legal community since 2007. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Information Security at Bank of America, where he designed and implemented the enterprise-wide Information Security Awareness Program.
Sean also worked with BITS, the Financial Services Roundtable Task Force on Privacy, prior to the enactment of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. He produced the video “It’s Not If, But When” for the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council, in partnership with the U.S. Treasury Department, to improve critical infrastructure protection and Homeland Security. Sean was recognized by senior government officials and business executives for his “work to defend our nation’s critical infrastructure.”
