A. John Boulanger

A. John Boulanger is the Producing Artistic Director of Imagine That Productions. He has been recognized locally and nationally for his acting, writing and directing. His debut play, House of Several Stories, received the Michael Kanin National Student Playwriting Award and was performed in the Family Theatre at the Kennedy Center in DC as part of a weeklong festival. Locally, HOSS has shown at Texas State, Austin Playhouse, and The Blue—as well as in his hometown at The Harbor Playhouse.

Imagine That’s premiere of HOSS received several BIP and Austin Critics nods, winning (among others) The David Mark Cohen New Play Award. His production was also listed on three Top Lists of 2009 by The Chronicle and The Statesman. His plays have been developed by Troupe Texas (Austin), Working Man’s Clothes (NYC) and also performed as part of The Chance Theatre’s On-The-Radar Series (LA).

Boulanger’s work has been part of FronteraFest (Long and Short), garnering Best of Fest in 2011. Boulanger has also won directing honors from The William Inge Center for the Arts, where a piece of his work was performed in the childhood home of playwright William Inge, as part of the weeklong Inge Festival. He received a two-week observership to the Sundance Theatre Lab at the Sundance Institute (2009), and was the national winner at the Phi Rho Pi National Forensics Competition for Dramatic Duo Acting (many moons ago).

He is currently creating/developing a reality-show-based project for House of Several Stories, which he hopes to launch via Facebook in April. He is also working with Griffon Ramsey (formerly of Rooster Teeth) on an interactive project, creating an entire play production (from initial script idea to a final performance) streamed completely live for an internet-based audience.
