Lorna Murphy is an AWARD WINNING author/illustrator of children's books based in UK & Spain. She is originally from the Kent coast and after being landlocked for 20 years, now lives back where she is happiest, by the sea. After doodling in the margins of her finance reports for several years, she went back to college to study illustration. It was at Cambridge School of Art she discovered the world of illustrated books and has been hooked ever since. Since graduating with an MA in Children's Book Illustration in 2011, she has continued to work as a freelance illustrator for corporate clients such as MacMillan and Burrough Wellcome, as well as independents and creating her own picture books and staging regular exhibitions of her work.
Her picture books MAISIE'S MOUNTAIN, WHO'S STU?, EDDIE THE CAREFUL CAT are very popular for first readers and young English language learners. 'THE SPRINGBOARD BOOK' are popular tools in primary schools for creative-writing sessions.
She feels very privileged to be living in a world of books and people who love them. There are many books and author/illustrators that inspire her, in particular, innovators such as Shaun Tan, David Weisner and Brian Selznick who have shown us new ways of using illustration to tell stories.
She is also proud to have worked with her brother, the award-winning science writer GLENN MURPHY, on their first collaboration: "POO! WHAT IS THAT SMELL?" a fun non-fiction book for children about the five senses.
