Sylvia Roberts

Sylvia Alden Roberts is an author, historian, and public speaker based in Northern California's Sierra Nevada foothills. Born in San Antonio, Texas, she is a graduate of Trinity University. She founded the Mother Lode Black Heritage Foundation, an initiative dedicated to the preservation of the legacy of African American pioneers of the California Gold Rush. In partnership with the National Park Service, her work contributed to placing African American Gold Rush history in two Smithsonian museums. She is the author of Mining for Freedom and The Other Side of Nolan Street and writes a monthly newspaper column on contemporary racial issues.
