Mary Barr

Mary Barr has been a writer of fiction for over thirty years. She was educated in England, New Zealand and Australia due her father’s military assignments in the RAF and later as an engineer. She is now semi-retired from a fast paced life in promotions, marketing, advertising and business. It was through this association that she enjoyed many hours doing voice-over and animation work, co-hosting a radio talk show and appeared in the media and on TV. Her years spent writing advertising, speeches, and public speaking took her to many countries throughout the world. From her travels she drew life experience and understanding of different people and their cultures. Mary Barr remains true to fiction; she appreciates that 80% of all fiction readers are women and chooses loyalty to that demographic.

In the early nineties a work accident saw her confined to a wheelchair after partially severing her right ankle. It was this event that encouraged Mary Barr to change direction. Although told she may never walk again, it took her a gruelling seven months to work through the pain and again find her feet. From this time forward many books followed. Her passion to write, design jewelry and create artwork now encompass her days. Her life now consists of the things she creates and enjoys achieving.

With her first love being murder mysteries, several other genres soon followed. In 2007 Mary Barr decided to write children’s books and now holds a collection of seven. Her first three were published and achieved both ‘editor’s choice’ and ‘rising star awards’ which encouraged Mary to keep her juvenile genre alive. Her little fans never cease to amaze her.

Mary Barr sees storytelling as an art. Each completed story is a piece of life born from words onto the page. A true storyteller and then a writer, she sees the storyline in its entirety before she begins to write. She shares all the twists and turns which continue to whet the reader’s appetite through to the unexpected ending. Mary Barr’s readers experience the drama, suspense and intrigue of a captivating plot with characters that often appear larger than life. Can we relate to the good and bad in each of them? Do we share their character flaws? Have we experienced similar triumphs or do we merely aspire to get a glimpse into their lives? Perhaps it is only in our dreams that we can share their dangerous and exciting worlds. Whatever the answers, true fiction is an art and it creates a vivid image that stays with us long after the book is read. Mary Barr’s stories are created solely from her imagination and promise to keep you turning the page, all the way through to the rapt conclusion. Mary Barr and her rich imagination currently reside in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.
