I have always been interested in how things work. I was born in Putney, London UK in 1926. In 1935 my grandmother asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said General Manager of the combined British Railways. But I was told they were not combined. But I replied they will be! More formally at school in 1939 I expressed an interest in foreign countries. At that time I had a few school friends from foreign countries and refugees from Nazi oppression were coming in. I had a stamp collection with interesting stamps! War intervened and I became knowledgeable in electronics and trained for a radar officer: so I became a physicist. But I have been fortunate. I went to the first international science congress in the USSR after the war and have made many Russian friends. 35 years ago I was invited to visit Kuwait. I met many fine intelligent people who could have got good jobs anywhere in the west. But they preferred to stay home and make their countries work. They inspire me to help them if I can . 60 years ago I meta beautiful intelligent girl, Andree Desiree Dumond, and married her before anyone else could edge his way in. She has brought up 6 fine children of whom we are both very proud. Both of us have always had a feeling for helping the less fortunate no matter what their creed or skin color.
