Ersa Rhea Noland Smith, was born in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in a farm house belonging to her grandparents. She wrote a book about her father titled "Flyin' Bullets and the Resplendent Badge," the story of former Sevier County Sheriff Ray C. Noland and lawmen who helped him. As a child she lived with her family at the county jail where her father worked. The book is compiled from memories, old newspaper articles and scrapbooks along with numerous interviews.
