As a young girl growing up in a small Ontario town, Karen McCoy was an average girl and a below-average athlete. Three days after high school finished, Karen fled her chaotic upbringing and moved to Banff, Alberta. There, surrounded by countless female athletes, she learned to lift her first weight. Thirty years later, she still lifts. She is a masters competitor, a trainer and sports nutritionist, and she holds a recreation diploma and a degree in journalism. She lives on Vancouver Island with her husband and her special needs son. Karen continues to teach women all over the world about the positive aspects of weight training, and how it can connect them to their power and their spirit in unusual ways. She has numerous on-line training programs that she teaches year-round. She can be found at www.mccoyfitness.ca.
