James Hilgendorf is a filmmaker, speaker, poet, and writer. One of his current projects is traveling to towns and cities all across America, meeting people and giving talks, under the banner of "Traveling to a New America". His books and talks cover a wide range of subjects - religion, politics, economics, social issues, the future of America - all aimed at individuals realizing the limitless potential of their own lives; the true nature of their relationship to this vast universe we live in; and the realization of the deepest, greatest - and as yet unfulfilled - dream of America. He has been practicing Buddhism for over forty years with the SGI, or Soka Gakkai International, the largest Buddhist lay organization in the world now, with 12,000,000 members in 192 countries and territories around the globe. Of one of his books, "A New Myth for America", one reviewer wrote: "I do believe a book like 'A New Myth for America' can not only spark an important dialogue in the world, but help us to look at the future with more hope." - Cyrus Webb, "Conversations Book Club. Of another book, one reviewer wrote: "A must-read! I am serious when I say that reading James Hilgendorf's 'Life & Death: A Buddhist Perspective' was a life-changing experience. It has changed the way I will live the rest of my life." - Lisbeth Gant-Britton, author of "African American History", and UCLA adjunct professor in African-American Studies. The author has been a highly acclaimed filmmaker, having produced The Tribute Series, a series of travel films and documentaries that are in homes, libraries and schools throughout the United States, several of which have appeared on PBS and international television. Of the travel series produced by the author and his brother John, the Seattle Times wrote: "The Hilgendorf brothers are unique in the world of travel videos...No one is better at revealing the heart of a place than brothers Jim and John Hilgendorf."
