Gordon Thomas

Gordon Thomas was born in Salisbury, England in 1945. In 1969 he gained a PhD in nuclear physics and in 1972 became employed in the UK Home Office where he and his team conducted some of the original work in fingerprint science. After taking a range of administrative and scientific posts he retired in 2003.

Gordon writes novels about events and people in history. At 66 he was one of our oldest 'debut' novelists with the unique and beautiful story of 'The Harpist of Madrid', published in October 2011. This story is based on the life of a then famous Spanish Composer. His second novel, 'The Emerald of Burgos', the daring tale of a 16th century Spanish lady of pleasure, was published in June 2014 and in 2017 Gordon introduced the Kindle and paperback versions of 'Expulsion, a spy romance set in the period of Spanish history when the King and his court cruelly expelled the Muslims. He published 'Return to Madrid' early in 2019. This is a sequel to the 'Harpist of Madrid' and tells of a mother's anguished investigation into her son's death while at university. It can be read and enjoyed independently of his first novel. Gordon's writing has now taken a different turn. In July 2021 he published 'It began in Florence', a novel based on the amazing life of Ethel Smyth, a once famous British composer who is gradually becoming well known again. His aim is to encourage the performance of her music.

Gordon lives with his wife, Janet, in Worcester Park, in the London Borough of Sutton.
