Michael White

Mike is a Liverpool-based author with an unshakable fondness for stories that mix atmosphere, humour, and a hint of the uncanny. In an earlier incarnation - before broadband, proper coffee, and screens larger than a matchbox- he created best-selling, critically acclaimed text-based adventure games for various computers of the day. This achievement fills him with equal measures of pride and the faint suspicion that he may now, technically, qualify as an antique.

His Victorian steampunk series, Victoriana and Mars Falls, cheerfully dismantles the machinery of history and rebuilds it with cogs, brass, and a sly wink. His newer series explores The Rook, a fog-steeped city that feels vaguely Elizabethan, faintly Victorian, and unmistakably like trouble is brewing in its back alleys.

He is also the creator of The Flint and Locke Mysteries (The Resurrection Men and The Widow's Ledger), a gritty Victorian detective series laced with occult strangeness, unsolved murders, and an unlikely partnership forged in the shadow of Whitechapel.

In addition, Mike has written a number of standalone works, from the Victorian ghost story The Waiting Room to a heartfelt portrait of his home city, Liverpool, and the irreverent, God-bothering comedy Good Evans.

He is currently working on the third book in the Flint & Locke series, The Red-Eyed Boy, as well as having just released a charmingly quaint small rural village mystery, A Dog Called Dave, which does indeed include a dog, and yes, its name is Dave.

When the time is right, Mike plans to retire to a quaint windmill somewhere remote and keep bees. The bees don’t know this yet, though he suspects they may have opinions on the matter.
