Mary Gautier

Mary L. Gautier is a sociologist and senior research associate at the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) at Georgetown University. It was while serving as a lay pastoral associate in a large suburban parish in Baton Rouge Louisiana that Mary first discerned an interest in sociology of religion, which she pursued at Louisiana State University. Before coming to CARA in 1998, Mary taught sociology at LSU and at Texas Christian University. At CARA, Mary specializes in Catholic demographic trends in the United States, manages CARA databases on Church information, and conducts demographic projects. She also edits The CARA Report, a quarterly research publication, and other CARA publications.
