James A Caplan

Jim "Cap" Caplan serves as Chief Operating Officer for Environmental Dispute Resolution USA LLC.

Cap has over thirty years of experience managing environmental disputes while working for the U.S. Forest Service and as a consultant. In his years with the Forest Service, Cap served as National Public Affairs Director, Supervisory Land Use Planner, Deputy Regional Forester, Regional Forester (acting), and Forest Supervisor.

He also writes gritty and satirical fiction, writing under the name of Carson A. Pierce.

Cap served as Red Cross Director for a tri-county area in Oregon and taught environmental dispute resolution courses at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

He has degrees in Political Science and Community and Regional Planning from the University of Wyoming.
