Michael Huey

Michael Huey (b. 1964) is an American artist and writer based in Vienna, Austria. He is soon to release "Unpredictable Weather. The Sunny, Surprising, Sad Case of Count Felix 'Wetti' Schaffgotsche 1904-1942. A Reconstruction". The 1,000+ page examination of Schaffgotsche's remarkable life is the result of five years of research in European family archives. In 2021 he published "Inside Stories—Writing About Home", an anthology of essays about interiors. He has also written extensively on his own family in "Straight as the Pine, Sturdy as the Oak"; "Dearie - The Louis Betts Portrait of Harriet King Huey"; and "The Place of Beginning". Artist books from his shows include: "Betsy and I Killed the Bear" (2007); "ASH, inc." (2009); "China Cupboard/Houseguests" (2011); "Archivaria" (2012); and the pamphlet "Proof" (2015) from the Austrian Frederick + Lillian Kiesler Foundation. Huey has also published on the decorative arts in "Viennese Silver: Modern Design 1780-1918", which he edited, and in "Josef Hoffmann - Interiors 1902-1913", for which he wrote the essay "Art Itself - The Private Lives of Josef Hoffmann". He is a longtime and regular contributor to The World of Interiors.
