Thomas J. McLean

Thomas J. McLean is currently the Editor in Chief of Animation Magazine. He is an accomplished editor, writer and publishing pro whose extensive coverage centers around the entertainment and animation industries, comic books, graphic novels, VFX and emerging technologies. His credits include publications such as Variety, Animation Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, Los Angeles Times Custom Publishing, Deadline.com, AwardsLine.com and Newsarama.com.

He is a frequent panel speaker, moderator, and guest expert for events, TV and radio. Among others, he has been featured at Comic-Con International: San Diego; New York Comic-Con; Book Expo America; Screenwriter Expo and was a judge for the Eisner Awards and the Comic-Con Film Festival. For a number of years he wrote a comics-oriented blog called Bags and Boards, which he founded and first published on Variety.com. It will one day be revived again.

Born in Canada, McLean earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of Arizona. He began his career in journalism working for newspapers including the Arizona Daily Sun, The Idaho Statesman and the Daily Breeze.

He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughters. He enjoys hockey, beer, vinyl recordings, reading and also is trying to learn to play the guitar.
