John Stover

John H. Stover was born into an Irish Catholic family in Brockton, Massachusetts, the 4th child of 7. The budding young author would visit the West Elm Hotel, a downtown skid row hotel owned by his father, every day after school. Mr. Stover found the first of many corpses at age 6.

The author attended Boston University as an English major. He was forced to leave the prestigious school upon waking up in a straight-jacket, picked up by Boston Police after running naked thru the winter streets of Boston, the result of a bad LSD trip.

After college Mr. Stover logged over 20,000 miles, hitch-hiking through the South; hopping freights, selling blood and working at such odd jobs as carnival worker, butcher, moonshine runner and ambulance driver. The year was 1973.

After Mr Stover returned to his hometown, he then moved to Nantucket Island where he associated with the rich, the local fugitives and the many rock stars who inhabited the island at the time. While on Nantucket, the author drove the town ambulance and lectured the public on early American whaling, scrimshaw and Herman Melville.

In 1976, the author moved to California where he went to work for Edwin W. Pauley, one time Treasurer of the Democratic Party, and Chairman of the Board of Regents for the Universities of California. Pauley Pavillion at UCLA is named for Big Ed Pauley. Mr. Stover spent three summers on the Pauley's private island, Coconut Island in Hawaii. Mr. Stover got married on the Pauley's 85' yacht, the Mojo, in Newport Harbor, CA.

In 1981, Mr Stover entered the world of fashion. He worked for Playboy magazine and traveled with seven Playmates, who helped promote his clothing line. The author attended the Millennium New Year's party at the Playboy Mansion. He had great success as a clothing manufacturer, made a lot of money, started a family and then he discovered heroin. Losing everything as a result of his addiction.

In 1997. Mr. Stover sold his clothing company and commercial real estate in order to work as a full-time author. His first book, The Road Runner / An American Odyssey has been received to great praise. Common Cents / A Civil War Story is a futuristic, cautionary tale that compares homelessness to slavery. In-Sight / A Dysfunctional Time Traveling Tale, is his 3rd book about a dysfunctional time traveler.

In 2008 Mr. Stover was in a severe surfing accident where he broke his neck. He was briefly paralyzed and unable to work for six months. As a result he lost his business, house, cars, and twenty years without a drink, ultimately ending up at a downtown Mission.

Mr. Stover is once again clean and sober and recently finished his 7th, 8th and 9th books: a love story for our times, partially set in a Los Angeles Mission. The Love Rescue Me Trilogy consists of Love Hurts, Love Scars and Love Is All You Need. The author wrote these three books, two hours at a time on the Public Library's computers.

The author remains very close to his daughter, the multi-gifted Kaitlyn Rebecca Stover. Katy gradeuaded with highest honors from UC Santa Barbara in June 2012, Katy Stover is now teaching for the Bill Gate's sponsored, Teach for America at an inner city school in Washington DC.
