My name is Charles Nothe and thanks to Amazon, my first book, Proscriptii, is now available on Kindle. I love reading historical fiction and anything relating to ancient Rome. I enjoy Steven Saylor and Robert Harris for reading about Rome and anything written by Wilbur Smith.
Four years of Latin and especially the reading of Caesar's commentaries was the beginning of my long passion with ancient Rome. The years of 100 B.C.E. to the birth of Christ is filled with unforgettable characters and stories that one might believe to be fiction but are true.
Sulla's proscriptions are one such historical example of a traumatic incident of this era and the basis for my book Proscriptii. I wondered what could have happened to citizens, freedmen and slaves when death sentenced in the name of the dictator were posted on the forum wall. There were no trials, no appeals, and all property was confiscated. Lives were changed in an instant. What was the fate of the affected families? Who profited from the proscriptions? One other important question not easily answered by history is how did Julius Caesar avoid death after being proscribed? Those were the questions I needed to ask.
With historical facts and historical characters I created a fictional work about Sulla's proscriptions. Hopefully, the story can be enjoyed by other lovers of ancient Rome.
