Sherry Ginn

Sherry Ginn received her PhD in General/Experimental Psychology from the University of South Carolina in 1988. She subsequently taught at several colleges and universities in North Carolina, retiring in 2018. Her research focuses on how psychology and/or neuroscience are illustrated in popular culture, specifically science fiction television. She is author or editor of books on women in science fiction, sex in science fiction, the works of Joss Whedon, time-travel, companions of and gender representations in Doctor Who, Marvel’s Black Widow, representations of the apocalypse on television, and the series Dollhouse, Farscape, Fringe, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Sherry frequently collaborates with Gillian I. Leitch, Heather M. Porter, and Michael Cornelius. Her book on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., co-edited with Porter, is in press. She has held several leadership positions in the Popular Culture Association (PCA) and PCA-South. Reading and traveling are her great joys, along with a spoiled-rotten cat and a long-suffering spouse.
