Darrell L. Smith Sr. "The Miracle Man"

Graduated from Raceland, Ky High School Class of '64, and served in U.S. Army from 1966-2006. Master Sergeant E8, USA Retired. Attended Columbia College 1993-1996 Computer Science. I was told I had Colon Cancer in 1998, with 2 stage 4 colon cancers. Shortly after, I was given a few hours to live, but God gave me a Miracle in my darkest hours. In 2001 Cancer reared its ugly head once again and I had prostate cancer, and survived. I served 15 months in Afghanistan in 2004, and With the threat of colon cancer returning once again, I had surgery in 2008 to completely remove my colon to rid the fear of ever having colon cancer again. I am now retired, spending part of my time in Kentucky, and living in Alabama. I am currently attending Kaplan University, and hope to have a Master's degree in Computer Forensics Investigation, and Network Security. While living in and out of Hospitals for 14 years, I found myself surrounded by some of the greatest doctors and caring nurses, who stood alongside me in standing up to cancer. I personally believe that it was only through my faith in God and those medical professionals, that I survived the horrific ordeals of those fourteen years of my life. In writing my book, I hope that in some way,the reader will be inspired and join the rest of us in standing up to cancer. For I believe the only way we will ever see a cure is through increased public awareness and understanding of "the silent killer" - Cancer.
