About Bruce Robinson
A graduate of the Lawrenceville School ’53 and Cornell University ’57, Bruce Robinson also has advanced degrees in English from the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University. Bruce has more than 25 years experience as an educator, editor and published author. In 1987, Bruce changed careers to become a technical marketing writer, working for such major corporations as Lockheed, British Telecom and Lucent Technologies.
After retiring in 2000, Bruce moved to Benicia, California, where he became fascinated by the history of this picturesque waterfront community on the Carquinez Strait. As a docent for the Benicia Historical Society, Bruce began writing oral histories for the "Solano Historian" and subsequently wrote op-ed columns for the "Benicia Herald," one of the oldest newspapers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Many of these columns are posted on the Forum page of that newspaper’s website. Also posted on this website are the opening chapters of "Legends of the Strait"—Robinson’s illustrated historical novel about Benicia, California during the Prohibition Era. In May of 2011, Author House published "Legends of the Strait" in paperback and e-book formats. This novel has earned five-star reviews on Amazon.com.
Bruce’s latest book is "Many Mansions:A Centennial Celebration of The Robert Treat Hotel." This illustrated memoir provides an eye-witness account of what it was like to grow up in the management suite of one of Newark, New Jersey's most prestigious hotels where his father, Lloyd Robinson, was Vice President and General Manager from 1935 to 1945. "Many Mansions" is now available in paperback and Kindle formats.
